Epoch Composite Idlers are made using 1/8" wall (3/16" in larger sizes), carbon fiber/epoxy matrix composite. The tube has nearly double the stiffness-to-weight ratio of aluminum, yielding rolls that are unmatched for their low rolling inertia. Made for medium to low web tension applications, these rolls include our removable bearing carriers with stainless steel stub shafts. The bearing carriers decrease bearing replacement time, lower the weight of the assembly, have lower breakaway torque, and lower rolling drag than other idler rolls. All this adds up to an idler that can ramp up to speed faster, stops quicker, and maintains line speed better than heavier idlers. 

A special feature of Epoch Composite rolls is that they can easily be converted to Live Shaft rolls by using bolt-on live shafts.

These idlers are dynamically balanced to ISO grade G6.3. Each roll is machined to precision tolerances and has a 63 RMS surface finish across the face.
