Epoch's Original Bearing Carrier

In October of 1989, a revolutionary design was completed at Epoch. The removable bearing carrier design cut maintenance time, reduced bearing inventory, and provided modularity and interchangeability. Henry Ford would have been proud.

In standard metal rolls, the bearings must be press-fit into a bore. This often requires several hours of downtime and, in many cases, two men to complete. Since Epoch's rolls are so light, we can use small bearings fitted into a removable, bolt-on bearing carrier. This modular approach reduces bearing change time to a one-man operation requiring only minutes to complete. With the current cost of down-time, this feature alone can justify the cost of Epoch's composite and alulite rolls.

This modular approach enables all sizes of rolls to use the same bearings, thus reducing bearing inventory. When different types of bearings are required for different applications, the same carrier can still be used. For example, clean room applications requiring lubrication free, plastic bearings would use the same carrier as an industrial grade motor bearing for heavily loaded applications.
